Smart film specifications: White,
Grey and Black

Optical, electrical, physical and environmental data for Smart Electronic Tint™
switchable film. Written for architects, glaziers, interior designers and
electricians.

Default state

Opaque when unpowered

Drive voltage

Max panel

Clear when powered. Private when not.

Liquid crystals sit between two conductive layers in the film. With no voltage they
scatter light and the film is opaque. With 48–65 V AC applied, they align and the film
turns clear. Power is drawn only while the film is clear.
Powered (ON)

Clear

White film transmits 88% of visible light with 3% haze. It switches from opaque to clear in under 10 ms.
Unpowered (OFF)

Opaque

White film drops to 11% visible light and 98% haze, so light passes but images don't. A power failure leaves the room private, never exposed.

Three colours, each shown clear and opaque

Colour changes both states, not just the opaque one. Grey and Black cut light and heat when clear too, so choose on how bright the room needs to be with the film switched on.

values for your project before you specify them. Larger openings are covered by splitting
across panels.

Electrical and installation

The film never sees mains voltage. A transformer steps mains down to 48–65 V AC
and feeds each panel through its busbar.
01

Mains supply

Connected by a licensed electrician
02

Transformer

Sized to the total film area; switch or remote control
03

Low-voltage run

48–65 V AC, 50–60 Hz to each panel
04

Busbar and film

Clear when energised, opaque when not

Included in supply and install

  • Manufacture of Smart Electronic Tint™ film, cut to each panel
  • Full busbar installation
  • Full silicone edge work
  • Final finishing and switch test

Scoped separately once the job is confirmed

  • Electrical work, including transformer requirements
  • Remotes and control options
  • Project-specific customisation
Sizing the load: film draws under 5 W/m² when clear, so a 10 m² installation draws under 50
W at the panels. We confirm the transformer specification with your electrician before
install.

What's covered, and for how long

3 years

Product warranty

Covers the Smart Electronic Tint™ film against manufacturing defects.
5 years

Workmanship warranty

Covers our installation, including busbar and silicone work.

Questions specifiers ask about smart film

What happens in a power outage?

The film turns opaque. It's clear only while powered, so the unpowered state is private. A power failure never leaves a room exposed.

Does it draw power when opaque?

No. Film draws power only when clear, at under 5 W/m².

Who connects it to mains?

A licensed electrician. The film runs at 48–65 V AC through a transformer. We confirm transformer and control requirements once the job is confirmed and scope that electrical work separately.

Which colour blocks the most heat?

Black. It blocks 93% of infrared when clear and 100% when opaque. Grey blocks 44% and 90%. White blocks 35% and 90%.

Can the film dim?

Confirm dimming with us for your project. Standard control is on and off by switch or remote.

Icon - Elements Webflow Library - BRIX Templates

What's the largest panel?

1500 × 2700 mm per panel, interior or exterior. Larger openings are split across panels.

Icon - Elements Webflow Library - BRIX Templates

Can the figures differ on my project?

Yes. The values here are manufacturer test data. Glass type, colour and panel size can shift performance, so we confirm figures against your drawings before you specify.

Specifying new glazing instead?

Smart glass comes as a sealed insulated glass unit with published SHGC,
dimming and segment control.
